Put simply, Mental health or
Mind-health as we like to call it, encompasses your emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing.
It affects how you think, feel, and behave, influencing your ability to cope with stress, build relationships, and to make decisions.
Did you know, that nearly 1 in 5 U.S. adults live with a mental illness (National Institute of Mental Health, 2022)?
It's similar in the UK, where 1 in 6 adults experience a common mental health problem like anxiety or depression in any given week (Mental Health Foundation, 2023).
This is why prioritizing your mental health is critical for your overall health and wellbeing! 😊
Positive mental health can lead to:
- Increased resilience and stress management skills (American Psychological Association, 2017) 💪
- Improved productivity and focus (Huppert & So, 2013) 📈
- Greater life satisfaction and happiness (Diener & Seligman, 2004) 😄
Physical health, you know what that means, right?
In simple terms it refers to your body's condition and its ability to function effectively.
Your physical health includes factors like fitness levels, nutrition, sleep quality, and disease prevention.
Regular physical activity is crucial for maintaining optimal health.
The World Health Organization (2020) recommends adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity, aerobic activity per week.
Unfortunately, a 2022 survey in England found that only 63% of adults met these guidelines (Sport England, 2022).
In the United States, the situation is also concerning, with only 53.2% of adults meeting the recommended aerobic physical activity guidelines (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2023).
The benefits of physical activity are numerous, including:
- Reduced risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021) ❤️
- Improved sleep quality (National Sleep Foundation, 2022) 😴
