WEALTH > PART 1: Redefining Wealth, It's More Than Just Money 💰✨

WEALTH: What are your beliefs?

When you hear the word "Wealth," what's the first thing that comes to mind 💰💰💰?

Is it piles of cash, luxury cars and a mansion overlooking the ocean? 🤔

While those things might be nice, at coachio we believe that true wealth in life is about much more than just money and material possessions!

True wealth is all about living a rich and fulfilling life in all areas of your life and the personal journey for you to get to that understanding and realisation!

At coachio we focus on helping to coach individuals and teams in Self-Mastery for optimal-functioning, to achieve a wealth mindset across all of your 5-core life-domains!

Money: A Tool or a Tyrant, what are your thoughts? 🛠️

Let's be honest, money plays a significant role in our lives. It essentially affords us choices in life and allows us to access resources, experiences, and opportunities to pursue our passions and provide for ourselves, and most importantly our loved ones!

However, it's important to remember that money is a tool and not a tyrant like many believe.  Money can be considered a transfer of energy between different points, a by product of meaningfully applied attention, energy and value creation, and not just the end itself!

Try thinking of money in these terms:

A hammer is a useful tool for building a house, it transfers it's energy with careful attention and guidance into building the house, but the hammer is not just the house itself. 🔨🏠

You could also think of money as social energy ⚡️.

When you work, you're generating some of this energy. Then, you use it like a universal token 🎟️ to buy the goods and services you need or want, like that morning coffee ☕, your share of the rent 🏠, or tickets to that gig 🎶.

So, have a think about the kind of "energy" you are applying and putting out there?

What "token" outputs are you collecting at the moment? 😉

In summary, think of money as an output of the energy we apply in our lives to certain tasks, then we use that money to pass the value we created between each other!

What if we apply smart energy to create smart outputs of money! 🤔

So what do we actually mean by that?

Well, most people are just trading their time for money, i.e. you work an hour and you get paid a fixed amount for that hour!

However, entrepreneurs, business owners and investors work differently!

They use their skills and know how to identify opportunities to produce value that people want or need, i.e. they create products, services or systems that multiply the time they invest to deliver money outputs of 10, 100, or 1000 times the energy they invest! We can term this as the smart-money!

Generally, and in summary money can be considered the by product of directed, focused energy and a valuable resource for helping you to build a fulfilling life!

But money's not the sole determinant of your happiness amd success, or is it?

Happiness & success: Does money buy it? 🤔

The link between money and happiness is a complex one, the research yields mixed results. Some studies suggest a positive correlation between income and happiness, at least up to a certain point. For example...

A study by Kahneman and Deaton (2010) found that emotional wellbeing increased with log (logarithmic) income, but that this effect diminished for those earning circa $75,000 per year.

However, more recent research challenges this notion of a happiness plateau where..

A 2021 study by Killingsworth found that happiness continues to increase with income, even at very high levels (Killingsworth, 2021).

This shows the relationship between money and happiness may be much more nuanced than experts have previously thought or understood!

The Psychology of Money: Unveiling Your Beliefs 🧠

Our relationship with money is often shaped by our beliefs, values, often passed on to us by those close to us and/or from past personal experiences.

Do you view money as a source of stress or security?

Do you believe that wealth is something you earn or something you're entitled to? 🤔

Developing a clear understanding your money mindset is crucial for making sound financial decisions and achieving your goals.

Research has shown that our beliefs about money can influence our spending habits, saving behaviors, and even our overall well-being (Klontz, Britt, & Archuleta, 2011).  For example, a study by the Money and Mental Health Policy Institute (2017) found that people with mental health problems are three times more likely to be in debt than those without.

Financial Intelligence: Taking Control of Your Finances 🤓

Financial intelligence is about more than just knowing how to balance a budget or invest in the stock market. It's about understanding how money works, financial terminology, and making informed financial decisions by developing a healthy relationship with your finances.

Here are 4 key tips for improving your financial intelligence:

  • Financial literacy: Understanding basic financial concepts, such as budgeting, saving, investing, and debt management. 📚

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) found that only 57% of adults in the UK and 66% in the US are financially literate (OECD, 2020).

  • Money management skills: Developing practical skills for tracking your spending, creating a budget, and saving for the future. 💰

Research indicates that individuals with strong money management skills are more likely to accumulate wealth, avoid debt, and achieve their financial goals (Hilgert, Hogarth, & Beverly, 2003).

  • Financial self-awareness: Understanding your beliefs, emotions, and behaviors around money. 🤔

Studies have shown that individuals who are more self-aware of their financial attitudes and habits tend to make better financial decisions and experience less financial stress (Fernandes, Lynch, & Netemeyer, 2014).

  • Financial responsibility: Making conscious and responsible choices with your money. 😊

Taking responsibility for your financial well-being can lead to greater peace of mind, reduced anxiety, and improved overall life satisfaction (Sheldon & Lyubomirsky, 2006).

  • BEING: Cultivating self-awareness, self-acceptance, and a growth mindset are crucial for personal growth and fulfilment. 😊

Research supports self-awareness enhancing emotion management, communication, and decision-making (Humber River Health, 2022; Personalysis, n.d.).

  • SOCIAL: Building strong relationships with family, friends, and your community provides a sense of belonging, support, and happiness. ❤️

Extensive research confirms social connection is a fundamental psychological need, significantly predicting overall wellbeing, happiness, and longevity (The World Happiness Report, 2025; Gnnelli, 2023; AdventHealth, n.d.).

  • VOCATION: Finding meaningful work that aligns with your values and passions can bring a sense of purpose and satisfaction. 💼

Studies indicate where individuals align jobs with personal values and passions for  meaningful work, they foster greater fulfillment, commitment, and resilience during challenges (Frontiers in Psychology, 2025; Building ReCareers, 2025; Phoenix, n.d.).

  • WEALTH: Developing financial intelligence and creating a healthy relationship with money can empower you to achieve your financial goals & live a life of abundance. 💰

Research shows financial literacy remains low in the U.S., yet it is strongly linked to positive financial behaviors like planning for retirement and avoiding excessive debt (Iowa State University, n.d.; Lusardi & Streeter, 2023).
